What Else You Should Know About Function of Beauty

When you first sign up, you get to customize your haircare products that target multiple needs in one formula (i.e. you can choose a product that volumizes while also hydrating your hair). However, you’re not obligated to keep this formula for as long as you are subscribed. The brand actually encourages you to change up the formula depending on your needs. Your hair might need color protection and frizz-control in the summer, while your needs may shift to hydration replenishment during the winter. You’ll want to think ahead before your next shipment is sent out because once it’s out, you won’t be able to exchange it or return it for a refund.

Additionally, Function of Beauty also has custom skincare and bath products. So if you’re on the market for a new body wash and moisturizer, give them a try.

Is Function of Beauty Worth It?

With Function of Beauty, you can customize products with up to five needs, including color-protection, deep condition, volume, curl definition, and hydration. And even better, you can choose the scent you want infused into the products (or choose none at all if you have sensitivities).

By having very customizable products, it eliminates the need to have multiple different shampoos and conditioners in your shower (one day for color protection, another for hydrating, etc.). This helps save time, money, and space in the shower for other Function products like body wash, face wash, and co-wash.

How Function of Beauty Compares to Other Top Custom Hair Subscriptions

Function of Beauty VS Prose: Function of Beauty and Prose are pretty similar in the sense that you get to create your own formula while also choosing a scent for it. That said, the prices vary greatly depending on the products that you get. If you choose an 8 oz bottle, Function of Beauty will cost you $40 for both shampoo and conditioner if you subscribe, and $60 for a one-time purchase. If you opt for a 16-oz bottle, Function of Beauty will be $80 for a one-time charge and $50 if you subscribe. On the other hand, Prose will cost you $42.50 for an 8.5 oz shampoo and conditioner subscription combo, and $50 for a one-time purchase. Additionally, Function of Beauty is available in two sizes, while Prose only has one. Similar to Function of Beauty, Prose also offers a wider variety of products, such as a custom hair oil, custom dry shampoo, and a pre-shampoo hair mask and scalp mask.

Function of Beauty VS Aura Hair Care: While Aura does provide custom hair care, it is designed more for people who want to add pigment to their hair, similar to Overtone. Aura also has a far more extensive customization process, as it takes into consideration the length of your hair, if you work out or swim in the pool a lot, and the process of styling your hair, among many others. Aura is a little pricier with a 10 oz bottle going for $28, so if you’re buying a shampoo and conditioner, this will cost you $56. They also don’t offer savings if you subscribe to get their products (so you’d be paying $56 every single time). Meanwhile, with a subscription to Function of Beauty, a 16 oz shampoo and conditioner set costs $50.

Function of Beauty VS Act+Acre: Another similar haircare brand that boasts clean ingredients is Act+Acre. The brand has mainly plant-based products, so you know you’re getting the cleanest ingredients out there. Unlike Function of Beauty, Act+Acre doesn’t offer customized formulas. Instead, you get to pick your own routine: either moisturizing and revitalizing or cleansing and detoxing. Price-wise, Function of Beauty also dominates because with Act+Acre, you will be paying $28 for a 10-oz bottle. So buying a set of shampoo and conditioner will cost you $56. And it’s not customized.
